William "Bill" Davis

William “Bill” R. Davis, 81, of Frostburg passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Frostburg Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born April 15, 1932 in Frostburg to William R. Davis and Eunice Mae (Dudley) Davis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Winifred “Winnie” M. Davis and a son, Scott “Eese” Bradley Davis.

Mr. Davis was a life member of Frostburg United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He retired as a teacher in Allegany County; and held employment with Carter & Roque as a real estate agent, a member of the Allegany County Planning and Zoning Commission.

Bill has served Frostburg for many years in different capacities such as Mayor, the Frostburg City Council as Police and Fire Commissioner, the Planning and Zoning Committee and the Historical Commission. A U.S. Navy Veteran serving in Korea on the USS Wasp, a member of Farrady Post 24 American Legion where he served as past commander, and chaplain of the Honor Guard, a member of Maplehurst Country Club, Frostburg Elks Lodge #470, Loyal Order of Moose #348, Eagles #1273 and a lifetime member of the Frostburg Fire Department where he served as Chaplain..

Bill had never met a stranger, he loved talking with people. His love of traveling and meeting all types of people led him to taking cruises and trips to all areas of the world, Alaska, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Egypt and Israel to name a few.

Surviving are his son, William “Buzzy” R. Davis and wife Lisa, of Frostburg, one brother, Donald E. “Pete” Davis and wife Anne, Frostburg, one sister, Patricia Kelly and husband James, Illinois; brother in law, Gerald “Bugs” Walsh and wife Rosella, Oldtown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are J.B.Hovatter, Kip DeVault, Dayne Lancaster, Sam McCulloh, Bill Price, and Mike Shirley.

Military Honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Frostburg Fire Department, 75 South Water Street, Frostburg, MD 21532 or Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard, 57 W. Main Street, Frostburg.
