William L. “Bill” Rice, 69, of West Finzel Road, Finzel, passed peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2016, at Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center.
Bill was born on December 23, 1946, in Finzel, and was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Mary A. Rice, 2007. He is also preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Warfle; brother, Paul Raley; sister, Betty Fresh and half-brother David Warfle.
Following his service in the U.S. Army, Bill worked and retired as an X-Ray Technician on the pipeline. Bill was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and bird watcher. He also enjoyed aggravating others.
Surviving are his three daughters, Terry Shumaker and husband Ronnie, Tracey Rice and Tonya Deakin and husband Greg, all of Finzel; grandchildren, Randi Keiling Shumaker and husband Aaron, Allie Shumaker, Rikki Loar, Shay Shumaker, Wyatt Deakin and Raegan Deakin; great-grandsons, Myles and Maddox Shumaker; special friend Sherry Porter; sister Geraldine Ultis, brother Edward Raley and wife Paulette, and half-brothers Lee and Gary Warfle as well as many more loved family members.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg MD, on Thursday April 28, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday April 29, 2016, at noon, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Finzel Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by Grantsville American Legion Post #214 Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Shumaker, Greg Deakin, Rikki Loar, Shay Shumaker, Aaron Shumaker and Hunter Broadwater with honorary pallbearer Wyatt Deakin.
The family would like to thank all the kind people who helped care for Bill over the past 18 months.
