William James Monahan, 79, of Frostburg died at his home on, October 18, 2021, surrounded by his family after a well fought battle with cancer.
Born on, January 21, 1942, to the late Raymond and Pearl Monahan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by sister and brother-in-law, Ronnie and Ellanor Damewood.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Alice B. Monahan; Daughters, Vicki Monahan, Wendy Atkinson and husband William; Grandchildren, Alison Eller, Brianne Davis, Nick Atkinson and Dylan Stakem; Brother and best friend, Gary Monahan and wife Gwen; Sister, Mary Lou Carbone; an many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
His girls were his world including his puppy, Chloe. Bill loved his time on the lake with his family and friends.
Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran. He owned and operated, Sherwood Bowling Lanes for over 50 years, and established many outstanding friendships. He was the king of,“bend your knee and follow through,” and was known for his jokes, great sense of humor and there wasn’t many days you couldn’t catch him smiling and laughing .
Mr. Monahan was cremated in accordance with his wishes.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frostburg, MD on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 11am to 1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Rev. Dan Agnew officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to, Allegany County Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace St, Cumberland, MD 21502, or to UMPC Western Maryland Home Hospice, 1050 W. Industrial Blvd, Cumberland, MD 21502.
