William Cuthbertson

William Robert Cuthbertson,78, passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, October 26, 2019.

Born February 27, 1941, at his grandparent’s house in Carlos, MD, he was the son of the late Melvin and Bernadine (Kenney) Cuthbertson.  In addition to his parents, two brothers, David and John Cuthbertson, and two sisters, Sally Skidmore and Melva Cuthbertson, preceded him in death.

Mr. Cuthbertson was a 1959 Graduate of Valley High School and a proud Veteran of the United States Army serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, American Legion Farrady Post 24 and VFW Posts 5280, Lonaconing, and Old Rail Post No. 6025, Mt. Savage.

Bill held employment at Kelly Springfield Tire Company and the YMCA in Cumberland.

Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman, and overall enjoyed the outdoors.  He was the President of Brewer’s Hunting Club. He served the Midland Sportsman’s Club in a variety of leadership positions and was a lifetime member of the club. He also was a baseball fan.

Surviving him are his loving wife of 52 years, Virginia “Cookie” (Holtzman) Cuthbertson; son, Robert and his wife Patti, Frostburg; his daughter, Rona Wallace and husband Greg, Rock Island, IL; grandchildren, Cayton and Trenton Wallace, Morgan and Brayden Cuthbertson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Thursday, October 31, 2019, from 3-6 pm.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Jim Jeffries officiating.

Interment will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
