Sharon Carey

April 10, 1947 — July 11, 2015

Sharon Mavorne Carey passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015.  Sharon was born on April 10, 1947 in Frostburg, Maryland, where she lived her entire life.  She was preceded in death by her parents Harry L. Carey and Evelyn A. Carey.

Sharon graduated from Beall High School in 1965.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s degree in education counseling, both from Frostburg State College.  She worked as a professional counselor with students at Frostburg State, and as a psychology instructor at Hagerstown Community College.  Her gifts of wisdom, humility and empathy blessed and mentored numerous young adults at these schools.

Sharon then worked as an income tax consultant for H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt, blessing her clients with her gifts of clarifying intelligence and grounding compassion.

Sharon contributed to her community in many other ways, including serving as the founding Chair of the Board of Directors of Frostburg Community Theater, Regional Board Member for Shawnee Girl Scout Council, Member of the Executive Committee of the AIDS Alliance of Allegany County, Sunday School Teacher for Frostburg Methodist Church, and Founding Board Member of Blocher Cemetery.   Through these service roles, Sharon touched the lives of many people with her organizational skills which were always guided by charitable mission.

But perhaps Sharon’s greatest gift of all was her unique ability to form and sustain meaningful relationships with all types of people, whether life-long friendships or temporary acquaintances, bringing to all encounters playful humor, pure loyalty, and magical intuition.

In Sharon’s own words, “I was blessed with two extended families who mirrored values of my immediate family, providing a constancy and stability which reinforced the standards I grew up with.  I am so grateful to have been a part of the families of John and Rose Carey and George and Lily Arnold. I was also blessed by caring school teachers, Sunday school teachers, ministers, church people, friends, and all who enriched my life.  For those who have touched me so much, in big and small ways, I thank you. “

Sharon is survived by her brother Jerry Tenny, her sister-in-law JoAnn Tenny, her nephew Jerry R. Tenny, her niece Lisa Tenny, and Lisa’s fiancée John Kroll.

After a life on earth filled with love, service, grace, and fidelity, Sharon is now resting at peace in heaven, doing “just dandy.”
