It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of, Sally Sue (Stewart) Blank, who left us peacefully on March 20th 2025 in her own home surrounded by family at the age of 90. Born on April 7th, 1934 in Frostburg, Maryland, Sally was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Sally was a 1952 graduate of Beall High School. She was a member of the class of 1955 Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She started her nursing career at Miner's hospital in Frostburg. Her career continued at Memorial Hospital where she started as a nurse and eventually established home care service in our county. She then continued with her nursing at the Allegany County Health Department. Sally advanced her education at Frostburg State College to become a nursing educator. She was a nursing instructor at Allegany College of Maryland. After teaching, she helped with the opening of the Finan Center in Cumberland Maryland as the Head of Nursing. She then returned to Allegany College of Maryland to teach nursing until she retired.
Sally was the daughter of Chester and Mern (Filer) Stewart. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Paul Custer, her brother, Tom and his wife Ruth Ann, and sons-in-law Bob Smith (Kim) and Ron Leaf (Karen). She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Dutch Blank, their children Karen, Kim, Leslie (Dean), David (Leslie), Jeffrey (Leesa), their grandchildren Stacey (Kevin), Jessica, Megan (Tom), Carley (David), Tara (Aaron), Bobby (Cindy), Brad (Amanda), Ben (Upasana), Dexter, Sami (fiancé Bryce), Katie (Robin), Amie (Dane), Dustin (fiancé Lexi), Davis, Jacob, Salee and their great-grandchildren Michael, Alexander, Nathan, Joshua, Kaylin, Brayley, Kendra, Weston, Kara, Delia, Paige and one coming in September.
Sally was a member of First English Baptist Church in Frostburg, Maryland her entire life. She taught Children's Church, Sunday School, and was the director of the adult and children bell choir. She had a strong and meaningful connection with her church family. Sally was also a member of the Allegany County Art Society and enjoyed her Saturday morning women's painting group.
Sally loved painting, gardening, caring for her dogs, reading, playing music, and spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shiv Khanna, Tri-State Home Care, and Hospice for providing care for Sally.
A private family service to celebrate the life of Sally Blank will be held on March 29, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First English Baptist Church, a place close to her heart.
We will forever carry her memory in our hearts and are grateful for the time we had with her.
