Richard "Dick" Carl Burkhart, age 88, of Mt. Savage, Maryland, passed away at home on April 7, 2024.
Born in Mt. Savage on September 5th 1935, Dick was the son of the late Ida (Shoemake) Burkhart Finzel and Carl E. Burkhart. In addition to his parents Dick is preceded in death by his brother, Leon Burkhart, and his first and second wives, Dorothy A. (Knight) Burkhart and Dorothy J. (Mull) Burkhart.
Dick was a graduate of Mount Savage High School, Class of 1953. Following high school, he pursued higher education at the Baltimore Engineering Institute.
Dick had many vocations during his life. He retired as a draftsman for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company after 25 years of service. Following his retirement, Dick owned and operated the Gas-and-Go on Mt Savage Rd with his son Robert. Dick also drove a school bus for Allegany County Public Schools as an independent contractor.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed cars, boating, gardening, and hit-and-miss engines. He was a member of the Potomac Fish and Game Club, the Classy Chassy Car Club, the Masonic Kemp Lodge No. 154. He was very proud to be a charter member of the Mt Savage Lions Club.
He is survived by his partner Mary Edith Dominick; son, Richard C. Burkhart II and wife Angela; son, Robert L. Burkhart; step-children, Sheri Severn, Patti Imes, Karen Peden and W. Karl Prodoehl; grandchildren, Karl and Abby Burkhart; aunt, Shelby Nixon, and extended family including Theresa Ludwick, Lori Ruff, Elaine Weaverling and their children.
