Rev. Joseph David Byers

86, of Frostburg passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at WHMS Regional Medical Center.

Born February 3, 1927 in Lewistown, PA, to the late Merle Clarence Byers and Hazel (Verner) Byers. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one brother, Clarence M Byers, and one sister Flossie Cutshall.

Joseph was the first to graduate college in his family under the GI Bill having graduated from Trevecca Nazarene College as an ordained minister of the Church of Nazarene. He pastored over four churches; Cumberland Bethel, Barton, Moscow, Frostburg and transferred to Virginia upon retirement he returned to Frostburg as Pastor Emeritus. Joseph was a US Army Veteran of WWII serving as a tank commander in Germany and France. He was a member of Farrady Post 24 American Legion where he served as Chaplin of the honor guard.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years whom he married on October 17, 1945 in Huntingdon, Pa. JunAnn (McConnell) Byers; daughter, Tonya Marie Butler and husband Walter, Boston, MA. Many cousins, nieces, nephews and his beloved friends and relatives at his hunting camp.

Military Honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
