Pearl Walker Monahan , 101, of Frostburg, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center.
Born November 8, 1911, to the late William and Edith (Adams) Walker. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Raymond; sisters, Lillian Filer, Mary Keiling, Agnes Rice and Phyllis Phillips; and a brother, William Walker; she is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are two sons; William Monahan and wife Alice, and Gary Monahan and wife Gwen, and foster daughter, Mary Lou Carbone and husband Vince; five grandchildren, Vicki Day and husband Brian, Wendy Atkinson and husband Bill, Dena Weaverling and husband Chip, Autumn Avila and husband David, and Delray Smith and Becky; great grandchildren, Alison Eller, Brianne Davis, Nick Atkinson, Brittany and Brandi Weaverling, Leigha Gabriel, Isaac Avila, Sarah Potter and Patrick Smith. Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Emma Mae Walker and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Pearl was a member of Shaft Methodist Church for nearly 100 years and throughout her life. She was a devout Christian who touched many lives in many ways, she also held all veterans in her prayers. Pearl worked at Kelly Springfield during the war making bullets and later she provided transportation to school for special needs students. These students remained very special to her throughout her later years.
Pearl spent her final two years at Frostburg Nursing Home and her family is grateful to the many wonderful staff members who took care of her.
