Pastor James R. Glass

June 18, 1940 — December 26, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pastor James R. Glass, who went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2024, at the age of 84. Surrounded by his loving family and friends, Jim peacefully entered his eternal home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and unwavering service to God and his community.

Born on June 18, 1940 to the late Luther and Erma (Johns) Glass, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and soldier. He attended Frostburg State College. He worked many years at PPG Industries, developed relationships who became loyal patrons, and later became a co-owner of Western Maryland Glass.

He was an Army Korean War Veteran, and while in Virginia for a stint, met and married his sweetheart. They continued on to lead a ministry of praise, worship, and song.

Upon the death of Pastor Elmer Porter, Jim served as the beloved pastor of Apostolic Lighthouse on Portertown Road in Mount Savage for the last 33 years. To this extent he dedicated his life and touched countless lives offering encouragement, and spiritual guidance to all who knew him by speaking, officiating weddings and conducting funerals. A musician and talented in the creative arts, as evidenced by making a career in custom made/ cut glass. He also had a great sense of humor and always had the most creative Christmas light displays. And we cannot fail to mention learning braille and also teaching braille at Blind Industries and Services of Maryland.

Jim's warmth and generosity were evident in everything he did, as he brought the church into various nursing homes in the community, played the piano or the accordion and sang in community choirs. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Glass; brothers, Joseph Glass and Darrel "Hut" Glass, and sister Myra "Sissy" Nolan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris; his brother Charles "Sonny" Glass; his children, James Glass (Alan Kleinfeld), Chicago; Angela Hill (Sean Hill), Dayton; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gabriella, Isaiah, and Abigail, and many extended family members and dear friends.

Viewings will be held at Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg, on Sunday, December 29 from 5-7pm and Monday, December 30th from 1-3pm, with the funeral service to immediately follow, Ken Baker officiating.

Jim will be cremated following the services in accordance with his wishes.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Apostolic Lighthouse Church in his honor, continuing his mission to spread God's love.

Though we mourn his loss, we rejoice in knowing he is at peace in the presence of his Savior.
