Born June 9, 1956 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Mary Albana Weimer Thoerig (June 18, 1920 - Sept. 27, 2015) and James Franklin Thoerig Sr. (May 13, 1916 - Sept. 7,1989).
Surviving are her brother, James F. Thoerig Jr., Mount Savage; two sisters, Elizabeth Clark, Mount Savage, and Mary Ann Friend, Mountain Lake Park; sister-in-law, Gay Thoerig and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Clark and Ronald Friend, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Parish. Baptized and raised in the faith at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mount Savage.
She worked as an engineer's assistant with Dewberry, Nealon and Davis in McLean, Virginia, and then as a news reporter with the Cumberland News, and as a public relations manager for a local publishing company in the 1980's. In the '90s and 2000's, she worked as a part-time freshman English instructor at FSU; a freelance marketing writer for Williams & Wilkins and Aspen publishers; and full-time director for the local office of the March of Dimes.
She loved to travel, and went to Europe several times, especially enjoying Oktoberfest in Germany, Bally Gally in Northern Ireland and Fatima, Portugal.
Friends and family will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 4:00 -6:00PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Our Ladies of the Mountain, St. Patrick's Parish, Mount Savage on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 11:00AM by Father Mark Carter, OFM Cap.
Interment will be in St. Patrick Catholic cemetery in Mount Savage.
Memorials may be made in the form of donations to a charity choice.
