Mary Josephine Whitaker

Mary Josephine Whitaker, 85, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, surrounded by her family. 

She was born on September 29, 1939, in Frostburg, Maryland to the late Joe and Mildred McGowan. Also preceded by her husband, Carl Whitaker; brother, Joe McGowan; and sister, Karen Rice.

Mary and Carl spent a lot of time at Deep Creek Lake, the farm and being snowbirds in Florida. In her free time, Mary enjoyed bingo, going to yard sales, planting her flowers, spending time watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. 

She was a beloved mother, wife, and friend to all that knew her. 

Surviving are her two children; Randy Whitaker and wife Debbie, and Carla Whitaker Fowler; four grandchildren, Tyler Whitaker, Garrett Whitaker, Cody Fowler and Haley Fowler. 

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and especially seeing her grandkids and her great grandchildren, Brooks Whitaker and Sopheigh Whitaker. She is also survived by her sisters, Janice Young and Patsy Schultz

In accordance with her wishes, Mary is to be cremated and inurned with her husband Carl, at MD Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, at a later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to her caregivers: Peaches, Becky, Katie, Linda and Autumn. Special thanks to Harry and Rosemary Whitaker, for always being there.
