Mary Frances (Comer) Martirano
87, of Alexandria, VA, formally of Frostburg, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, VA.
Born in Frostburg, Mary Frances was the daughter of the late Francis Comer and Alice Miller Comer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Martirano; sister, Patricia Comer Unger and brother, William Comer.
Mrs. Martirano was a graduate of Beall High School and Frostburg State Teacher’s College. She also received an MA degree from Frostburg State College.
Her teaching career took her to Cresaptown School, St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Mount Savage School. During her life in Frostburg, she was active in AAUW, Soroptimist, House and Garden and as an alumni advisor to Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She was a member of several card clubs and was an avid reader.
Surviving are her daughter Frances Goldman and husband David, Alexandria, VA; two sons, Paul Martirano and wife Sue, San Diego, CA and John Martirano and wife Jennifer, Smithsburg, MD; eleven grandchildren, Joshua Goldman and wife Maureen, Hannah Goldman, Zachary Martirano, Gabriel Martirano, Kyle Melnick, Colin Melnick, Troy Melnick, Jayna Harshman, Julia Martirano and Joel Martirano; and sister Louise Comer Kylus of Bowie, MD.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 3 to 6 pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, Frostburg on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 am with Fr. Ed Hendricks as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Frostburg Public Library.
