Mary Baker

Mary Jane Baker, 94, of Wellersburg, went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 12, 2018, at WMHS Regional Medical Center.

Born January 18, 1924, in Wellersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Eleanor (Shaffer) Cassen.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ralph A. Baker, in 2012; and her brother, John Percy Cassen.

Jane was a dedicated homemaker who loved spending time with her family and caring for her pets. She was always cleaning and baking and loved to watch her Pittsburgh Pirates. She was a faithful lifelong member of Zion Community Church in Wellersburg where she served on the Ladies Guild and seldom missed a service or church event including the monthly hymn sings. She showed her children and grandchildren the way to the Lord by her steadfast example of strength and kindness.

Surviving are one son, Ralph Stephen Baker and wife Mary, Cumberland Hwy; one daughter, Janet Brennan, Frostburg; six grandchildren, Pastor Jim Jeffries and wife Stacey, Frostburg, Wendi Martz and husband Jonathan, Woodland, Tara Lescalleet and husband Chad, Winchester, VA, B.J. Jeffries and wife Margie, Frostburg, Matthew Baker and wife Erin, Cumberland Hwy, and Brian Brennan and wife Danielle, Finzel; and 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Linda (Cassen) Winebrenner..

Jane was especially blessed to have a devoted friend, Karen Starkey, who spent many cherished hours brightening up Jane's days and was like a second daughter. The family would also like to give heartfelt thanks to Jane’s daughter-in-law, Mary, for her wonderful love and care shown, especially in the last year and a half, as Jane’s primary caregiver after she moved up the mountain to live with her and Steve.

Friends and family will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

Funeral services will be held at Zion Community Church, Wellersburg on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at 11 am, with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.  Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Zion Community Church Cemetery.
