Lawrence Ronald Layton (Junior) departed his earthly home on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents Clara Edith (McKenzie) and Lawrence Lee Layton; his loving wife, Mary Lou (Morgan); sisters, Nancy and Emma “Louise” (Albright); brothers, James, Howard (Charlie), Paul, and John; and his mother and father-in-law, Sylvia Alverta (Spencer) and David Morgan.
Junior is survived by his children, Craig and Tosha, and one grandson, the absolute light of his life, Blake. He is also survived by sisters: Phyllis (Paul Deal), Betty (Bert Fair), Donna (Saylor), Debbie (Robert Brenneman); and brothers: Robert (Mary) and Larry.
Junior was a graduate of Beall High School, Class of 1964. He served in the Vietnam War and returned home to begin a 19 year career at Kelly Springfield Tire. Following Kelly’s closure, he worked for PBS Coals and retired from Orkin Pest Control in 2009.
Junior had many hobbies: bowling, golfing, handicapping thoroughbreds, traveling to Florida, selling hoagies, and riding his side-by-side with Blake. He was an active member of the Salisbury VFW and the Vietnam Veterans of Cumberland. He was also an active member of the Friday afternoon bowling league at White Oak Lanes, the Friday morning group get together at Holy Ground, and golfed regularly with his crew. He also partnered with his friend, Mark Amyot, of FEEBS Racing, and was able to realize a lifelong dream of partial thoroughbred ownership.
Junior was blessed to have true, meaningful relationships and left a loving impression on all who knew and loved him.
