John Arthur Shoemake, 77, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center.
Born on January 6, 1939, he was the son of the late George Shoemake and Cora Winebrenner Wolford; stepfather, Joseph Wolford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Shoemake; siblings, George Shoemake and wife Norma, Anna Mary O’Brien, Edgar Shoemake, Dolores and Arthur Harris, Mila Belle Paul, Ida May Shoemake, Ernie Witt and wife Joyce, Raymond Shoemake, Harry Shoemake; sister-in-law, Arlene McKenzie.
Following graduation from high school, John served in the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army after a career of 22 years and was a proud Vietnam veteran. After his military discharge, he sand-blasted silos and was a test car driver for ABL.
John was a loving husband, father, provider and a “jack of all trades”. He has now been reunited with his loving wife of 54 and a half years of marriage to Carolyn.
Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly DeAndrea and husband Steven, Tampa, FL; a son, Kenneth Shoemake, LaVale; grandchildren, Brianna DeAndrea and Jordan DeAndrea; great grandchildren, Jadyn Otero and Garrett Otero; brother-in-law, James McKenzie; sister-in-law, Debbie Negley and husband Ed; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
