John Edward Cuthbertson , 69, passed away on January 30, 2013 at the Allegany Co. Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born April 2, 1943 at his grandparent’s house in Carlos, MD. Son to the late Melvin and Bernadine (Kenney) Cuthbertson. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, David Cuthbertson and two sisters, Sally Skidmore and Melva Cuthbertson.
Mr. Cuthbertson was a 1961 graduate of Valley High School and a proud Vietnam Era Veteran serving from 1961 to 1964. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and American Legion Farrady Post 24, both of Frostburg. John held employment at Celanese, Cumberland Steele, Kelly Springfiled Tire Co. and drove school buses for Barnes Bus Service until retirement. He had a soft spot in his heart for his senior friends whom he shoveled snow and did lawn work for.
John was an avid Nascar, Baltimore Orioles and Maryland Terp Basketball fan. He enjoyed going to the Nascar races with his buddies and a cup of coffee with his high school friends, Bob Beeman and Bert Cesnick. He always looked forward to and enjoyed his trips to Outer Banks, NC with family.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 47 years, Janie (Knotts) Cuthbertson; daughter, Batina Kight and husband Ted, Cumberland; sons, Shawn and wife Meg, Annandale, VA, Jason and wife Erica, Hopewell Junction, NY; grandchildren, Ian and Jacob Kight, Kayla, Reid and Dalton Cuthbertson and his many grand dogs; brother, William Cuthbertson and wife Virginia; brother in laws, Leroy Skidmore, Ken Knotts and wife Annabelle, Harold Knotts, Allen Knotts and wife Sally; and many numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and Family will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A. 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 1 to 5 pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Michaels Church, Frostburg, on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11 am with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant.
Interment will be at the Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery, Flintstone, MD
Honor Guard will be accorded by the Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
Memorial Contributions in John’s Honor may be made towards the St. Michael’s Church Plaza Project, 44 E Main street, Frostburg, or to the Allegany Co. Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace St, Cumberland, MD
