John Thomas Allen, Sr., 72, Eckhart, died unexpectedly, Sunday, May13th, at his residence. Born in Frostburg, he was the son of the late George B. Allen, Sr., and Hope (Hoffman) Allen. He was preceded in death by his brother, George B. Allen, Jr.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Gracie) Allen; his children, Krista Livengood and husband Ed, Cathy Albright and husband Dan, and John T. Allen, Jr. and wife Carrie; his beloved grandchildren whom he adored, Trace Livengood, Sierra Livengood, Rachel Albright, Dalton Allen, and Isabel Allen. He is also survived by his sister Patricia (Allen) Kaplon and husband Don; and sisters-in-law Genevieve (Gracie) Miller and Eileen (Gracie) Topping. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Beall High School in 1965 and served in the United States Army National Guard from 1965-1971. He retired in 2005 from Atlantic Broadband where he had worked for 40 years. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the many years he spent working with the Boy Scouts of America. John cherished the times he spent as a drummer in various bands, including the Aliminators, Carl Baer and the Sounds of Country, Driftwood, and Four On the Floor. He most recently played in the Marsh Mountain Men, alongside his grandson Trace, his lifelong friend Rob Harper, and his “grandson” Garrett Yoder.
John was a member of the Frostburg American Legion Post #24 where he served on the Honor Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Barrelville Outdoor Club.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, MD, 21532, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 44 E. Main Street, Frostburg, on Thursday, May 17, 2017, at 11 am with Father Ed Hendricks serving as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors being accorded by Farrady Post 24, Frostburg American Legion Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be John T. Allen, Jr., Ed Livengood, Dan Albright, Trace Livengood, Justin Wilson, and Larry Clowser.
