Irene “Jackie” McVeigh, 78, of Frostburg, Md, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born in Frostburg on June 26, 1942, to Charles Wilson and Evelyn (Loar) Wilson, Jackie graduated from Beall High School in 1960. She was first married to George “Deacon” Wilson of Frostburg, and was later married to Olin McVeigh and they lived in Lake Worth, Texas until his death in 2006. Jackie then returned to her home in Frostburg to be closer to her children and their families.
Jackie held many different jobs in her lifetime and operated several small businesses. She was very independent and could tackle just about any problem that would arise. She had also been actively involved with St. John’s Episcopal Church in Frostburg.
Surviving are her children; Steven R. Wilson and wife, Cherie, and Linda A. Kirkwood and husband, Bruce, both of Frostburg. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Wilson of Lakeworth, Texas, her grand-children, Robbie and Karen Wilson, and Kendall Kirkwood, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, George “Deacon” Wilson, her second husband, Olin I. McVeigh, and her sisters Dorothea Rowe and Mary Rose Claypool.
The family would like to thank the staff at UPMC Western Maryland for the kind and compassionate care given to their mother and grandmother over the last two weeks of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Frostburg or the Allegany County Animal Shelter.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be no public funeral service. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In accordance with Jackie’s wishes, she will be cremated, and her cremains will be placed alongside her husband, Olin, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Veteran’s Cemetery in Irving, Texas. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg.
