Huey "Buck" W. Powell Jr.
82, of Frostburg, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
He was born Feb. 17, 1940. Buck was the son of the late Huey and Lola V. "Frost" Powell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl J.(Fresh) Powell; two brothers, Charles H. Powell and Thomas R. Powell; first wife, Linda (Spataro) Powell; and second wife, Carolyn (Smith) Powell.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and baking for others, going out to eat, and socializing with family and friends.
Buck was a proud Army veteran.
He was a member of the Legion in Frostburg and of the Frostburg Eagles.
He worked at Kifer Gas Station in his early years and later went on to work at Celanese Fibers Corp. and the CXS Railroad in Cumberland.
Buck then moved south where he became employed at Duke Energy.
In his later years, he became employed at Walmart where he achieved an award for being recognized as a 10-year Walmart employee where he then retired.
He is survived by his two sons, Michael R. Powell, Maryland, and Kenneth W. Powell, Georgia; daughter, Roxanne Powell, Virginia; granddaughter, Sierra R. Kenney, West Virginia, of whom he shared with his first wife, Linda; two daughters, Marme Potts, Indiana; Danette Masingill and husband, Richard Masingill, Alabama; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with his second wife, Carolyn; two stepdaughters, Mindy Mooney and husband, Mark Mooney, Maryland, and Erica Knepper, Virginia; and three grandchildren to wife, Cheryl.
Also surviving is Joseph W. Powell Sr., Buck's last surviving brother, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Buck's wishes, his body was donated to Anatomy Gifts Registry for the advancement of science.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Frostburg Farrady Post #24 American Legion on Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 12 to 5 pm. All family, friends, and loved ones are welcome.
