Our loving family patriarch Howard Skidmore Jr., age 95, of Midlothian, MD, surrounded by his loving wife Theresa of 21 years and family went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 29, 2025.
Born July 4th, 1929 he was the son of the late Howard "Jake" Skidmore Sr. & Elvira Davis. He is survived by one sister Mary Weindorf, Manassas, VA.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Catherine (Clark) Skidmore of 51 years and two sisters and two brothers, Blanche (Lamont) Ross, Shaft; Joanne Green, Lonaconing; Harvey Skidmore, Midlothian; Darwood Skidmore, Midlothian; and son-in-law Howie Wood, Frostburg.
Surviving are his children Tom Skidmore and wife Brenda, Midlothian, MD; Nancy Fansler and husband Don, Lavale, MD; Keith Skidmore and wife Denise, Hagerstown, MD; James Skidmore and wife Karen, Westminster, MD; Dana Skidmore, Midlothian, MD; and Mike Blank and wife Diane, Waynesboro, PA. He has 15 grandchildren: Howard Thomas "Tucker" Skidmore, Keith Edward Skidmore, Lisa Skidmore Beardsley, Matthew Skidmore, Jacob Skidmore, Krista (Wood) Singleton, Brandon Wood, James Nathan Skidmore, Natalie Skidmore, Elizabeth Skidmore, Adam Skidmore, Shannon Staples, Sean Blank, Jason Blank, and Eric Blank. As well as 31 great-grandchildren.
He served as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps as a radio-message router from 1951 to 1954. During his tour of duty he participated in underground nuclear testing at the Nevada National Security Site.
At the age of 14 he began working alongside his father Jake, and brother Harvey, along with their sons and other family members, at Skidmore Auto Wreckers until its closure in 2001.
As a Christian and faithful follower of God's word since the age of 25, he attended Trinity Assembly of God and Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church and held various positions such as mentor, deacon, teacher, and choir member.
Howard was a God-fearing man who dearly loved the Lord and his family. He set a wonderful example of how to be a good father and husband. He never met a stranger and encouraged anyone he met to make sure they have their heart right with the Lord.
Family and Friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm.
Funeral service is at Trinity Assembly of God, 1996 Old Midlothian Rd, Midlothian, MD 21543 on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 12 noon with a viewing one-hour prior. David Schoch from Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church is officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing, MD.
Farrady Post 24 American Legion to conduct Military Honors.
