Helen Lewis Williams, 95, of Frostburg, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Sterling Care Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on November 12, 1925 in Cumberland to Elsworth Lewis and Sarah (Wade) Lewis. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Joseph E. Williams Sr. and her siblings Donald L. Lewis and Betty L. Kimmell.
Helen was a member of Divine Mercy Parish St. Michael, Frostburg, MD. She graduated from Allegany High School class of 1942, and later entered the registered nursing school at Sacred Heart Hospital graduating in the class of 1946. While in the nursing program, she was a member of the Cadet Corp supporting the war effort. Upon graduation in 1946, she worked in a military hospital in Coatsville, PA. She was truly a member of the Greatest Generation. She was employed as a registered nurse at Miners Hospital in Frostburg, MD and retired in 1987 after 41 years of service.
She is survived by one sister, Barbara Lewis Whittacre and husband Larry of Bedford PA. Also surviving are her children Mary Anne Young and husband Dave of Frostburg, John E. Williams of Martinsburg, WV, Joseph E. Williams, Jr. and wife Julia of Frostburg, Kathryn Ford and husband Mark of Hagerstown, MD, William L. Williams and wife Debra of Huber Heights, OH, and Cynthia M. Hill and husband David of Elizabethtown, PA. Grandchildren are David, Matthew, and Christopher Young, April Miller, Amy V. Morton, Carla and Joshua Spataro, Joseph Valenzo, Evan and Dwayne Williams, Jeremy Brown , Jathon Sadowski , Molly and Megan Hill, AND 15 great grand children.
A private family service will be held with Fr. Doug Kenney as celebrant. The service will be live streamed on Durst Funeral Home Facebook page on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 starting at noon.
Internment will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
