Goldie Lee Speir

79, of Frostburg, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at home surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with kidney disease.

Born February 13, 1938 in Carlos, Goldie was the only daughter out of eight children to Wilbert Richards Sr. and Goldie R. (Winters) Richards. She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wilbert Jr., Jack, Raymond and George Richards.

Goldie graduated from Beall High School and attended Cathermans Business School. She worked briefly out of the home but dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren. Goldie enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and ceramics. She was a “snow bird” spending time in Sun City Center, Florida for many years.

Surviving is her husband of 55 years on October 6, 2017, William J. Speir; four children, Richard and Marilyn Speir, Glenwood, MD, Rhonda and Doug Winebrenner, Frostburg, Rebecca and Barry Miller, Cumberland, and Robyn Wilson, Frostburg; twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Robbie and Sarah, Russell and Randy Knieriem, Brittney and Brandon Murphy, Nathan Bobo, Kaitlyn and Kristin Speir, Connor Wilson, Shelly Winebrenner, Kiersten and Andrew Miller; four great grandchildren, Braden and Brie Murphy and Carlie and Tess Crawford. Also surviving are brothers, David and Sheila Richards, Tom and Pat Richards and Donald Richards, sisters-in-law, Loraine, Ardeth and Rosemary Richards and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm.

Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. George Loar officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
