George Henry Hughes, 84, of Mt Savage passed away at UPMC Western MD on Monday, February 1, 2023.
Born on February 20, 1938 to the late Magdalene "Maggie" (Burkhart) Hughes and William Albert Hughes.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Effie Mae Hughes; stepson, David Hutzell and brother, Randall Hughes.
George worked for the brick yard in Mt. Savage, was a lifetime member of the Mt. Savage Fire Department, and a member of the Kennelsville and Barrellville Outdoor Club. He was known as Pappy George to his grand and great grandchildren whom he loved. He also loved fishing, crosswords puzzles, watching westerns and was an avid Pittsburg Pirates and wrestling fan.
Surviving are his children; George Cobey William Hughes and husband Vidal, Steven Hughes and wife Candy; stepchildren, Jim James Lewis, Sharon Snyder and husband Gary, Linda Sullivan and husband Skip, Chuck Hutzell and wife Debbie, Rhonda Hutzell; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lantz and husband Bob; sister-in-law, Betty Shaffer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM.
A funeral service will be held at Durst Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:00 with Rev. George Harpold Officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to funeral service.
Interment will be in Mt. Savage Methodist Cemetery.
