Florence Acre, 92, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Sterling Care Frostburg Village.
Born on October 20, 1927, in Eckhart Mines, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Susan (Zumpano) Martirano.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Acre in 1994; brothers, Joseph, William and Augustine Martirano; sisters, Mary Martirano, Frances Sponaugle, Theresa Kotcho and Delphine Wilson.
Florence formerly worked for the Michael Berkowitz Clothing Manufacturer. She was a member of divine Mercy Parish St. Michael’s Church, where she served as a lector, was on the Eucharistic Ministry Committee and the Bereavement Committee. She was also on the K. of C. Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of America as well as the Women of the Moose 348, Farrady Unit 24 Frostburg American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary 1273 and the Ladies of the Elks 470.
Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Acre-Weinberger and husband David; stepdaughters, Kathy Moorehead and Susan Alkire; stepson, Robert Acre; sister, Nancy Martirano; brothers, Vincent “Jim” Martirano and Carl Martirano.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, Florence was cremated.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Divine Mercy Parish St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 44 E. Main Street, Frostburg, MD, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 11 am with Father Ed Hendricks as Celebrant.
Inurnment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Florence would like to thank everyone that was a blessing to her during her lifetime.
