Erma Lee Hovatter, 79, of Frostburg, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center.
Born on February 15, 1937, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Bernadette (Croft) Ward.
In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald Hovatter, Sr, in 2012; sisters, Leslie (Hileman) Beal, Carol A.(Hileman) Mannick, Marjorie (Hileman) Hulber and Delores (Hileman) Twigg; brothers, William Hileman and Noel H. Hileman.
Mrs. Hovatter retired from Allegany County Board of Education. She worked many years in the Adult Basic Program assisting many people obtain their GEDs. Erma also met many people while employed at Highs Dairy, Beal’s Corner Market and the Corner Market. She was a member of Farrady Post #24 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are daughter, Denise Merican and husband Michael, St. Mary’s, CO; sons, Donald Hovatter, Jr and wife Linda, Frostburg, Jay Hovatter and wife Angie, Frostburg; grandchildren, John Robert Merican, Haymarket, VA, Nicole Hovatter, Jared Hovatter, and Ethan Hovatter, all of Frostburg; sister, Bonnie Hileman and Shirley; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hovatter, Ginny Hovatter and Wilda Hovatter; brother-in-law, Larry Beal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, Erma was cremated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Farrady Post #24 Frostburg American Legion on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 2 pm
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations, in Erma’s name, be made to the American Cancer Society.
Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park at a later date.
