Edith E. Carter , 84, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on December 26, 2015 at Richland Memorial Hospital in South Carolina.
Born on December 3, 1931, in Buckhannon, WV to Donald Utt and Elizabeth Swisher. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John Francis Carter and one sister, Mary Ellen Utt.
Mrs. Carter was a Catholic by faith. Edith was a graduate of Fort Hill High School in 1949, Frostburg State College and received her Master’s degree in Special Education in 1985 from West Virginia University. She loved animals of all kinds and volunteered many hours with Meals on Wheels and Loaves and Fishes.
Surviving are her four sons, Michael F. Carter and wife Laureen, Columbia, SC, John D. Carter and wife Deb, Bentonville, VA, Kevin P. Carter and wife Barbara, Tazewell, VA, and Terry P. Carter and Jodell Nauert, Tampa, FL; six grandchildren, Michael, Robin, Alex, Sarah, Michael, and Jody Ford; eight step grandchildren, Dana White, Donnie White, Logan White, Katie Jeffords, Ryan Lapp, Kevin Lapp, John Rife, Matthew Rife; eight great grandchildren.
Interment will be St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Mt. Savage.
