Doris Lyons-Lancaster

Doris Irene Lyons-Lancaster, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2020.

Born on March 28, 1927, in Garrett, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Naomi Gale (Smith) Swarner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph S. “Red” Lyons and her second husband Harold M. Lancaster; sons Joseph Edward Lyons and Charles Albert Lyons; step-grandson, Keith Vanetta; nephew, Donald Hoover; two sisters; and one brother; She was the last of her immediate family.

Doris was a 1944 graduate of Berlin Brothers High School.  Following graduation, she worked as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital.  She also owned and operated the Clarysville Inn for over 40 years.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Frostburg Soroptimists, Council of the Alleganies, the Berlin, PA, Historical Society and the Ladies of the Elks #470.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her son John T. Lyons, Hampstead, MD and Cynthia Lyons, Hampstead, MD; step-son Warren Lancaster and wife Susan, Virginia Beach, VA; step-daughter Patricia Vanetta and husband Delbert, Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer Rowe and husband Brandon, Edgewood, MD, Alex Pitt and wife Alyssa, Fairfield, CT, Laura Lyons, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Charles Lyons, Washington, DC, Peter Lyons and wife Megan, Hagerstown, MD, Michael Lyons and wife Beth, Alexandria, VA and Cara Herring and husband Ben, Norfolk, VA; step-grandchildren, Michelle Sudderth and husband Jeff, Heather Harmon and husband Gary, Shelia Zangl, Christina Behrens and husband Jeremiah, and Amy Wilson and husband Garland, S. Norfolk, VA; nine great-grandchildren; and special daughter-in-law, Constance Lyons Loucks. Doris brought joy to all she met and left a legacy of love; she will be dearly missed.

In accordance with her wishes, Doris will be cremated and will be inurned in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
