Dawn Jackson

Dawn Kristine Jackson, of Frostburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, after a brief but hard fight with liver disease.

Born April 2, 1957, she is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Doris (Kerr) Wright.

Dawn is also now reunited with her loving husband of 46 years, Donald Washington “Donnie” Jackson, and a son, Donald Washington “Duke” Jackson Jr.

She is survived by a loving son, Travis Donald Jackson, and girlfriend Tracy Rush; sister Debbie Yutzy and husband, Tim; sister Dottie Hummel and husband, George; and many nieces and nephews, as well as so many that had the honor of calling her “Momma Jackson.”

Dawn, a 1975 graduate of Beall High School, had a love for helping others that carried over into her professional life. Upon earning an associate’s degree in nursing from Allegany Community College, she served as a nurse for 45 years in Allegany and Garrett County.

Dawn, like her husband, was a diehard sports fan. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Pirates, but her favorite team was any team her son Travis played on, having never missed one of his soccer games.

Dawn cherished many things in life, but none more than her husband, family and friends. She enjoyed having a house full of kids that came and went throughout her son Travis’s upbringing, always making sure to ask his friends how their family was doing or how sports were going. During the holidays, Dawn loved the neighborhood kids stopping by for “cookie runs.”

Dawn, who was also an avid bowler, spent much of her free time exploring the world, as she cherished trips to the beach, seeing lighthouses, and many coveted family vacations at Disney World.

As active of a lifestyle as Dawn and Donnie lived, Dawn cherished the small-town life and loved sitting on the porch talking to family, friends, and anyone in the neighborhood passing by.

Friends and family will be received at Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg on Sunday, 1-3 p.m., with a service immediately to follow.
