Carol Marie McCleaf

Carol Marie (Culley) McCleaf passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Devlin Manor Nursing Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

 Carol was born in Mt. Savage on November 25, 1945, and was the daughter of Mary (Bridges) Culley and Albert Culley, Sr. She graduated from Mt. Savage School and was a hairdresser by trade. Although she stopped working outside the home after the birth of her children, she continued to cut, color, and style the hair of family and friends for many years.

 She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, and her older daughter, Becky, who died on February 5, 2024, from ALS, leaving her with a broken heart. Carol was blessed with uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends who loved and supported her throughout her life, although many have passed on.

 Surviving in addition to her parents are her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Donald McCleaf, Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Murphy (Billy); son-in-law, Mike Dick; and grandsons, Michael and Colton Dick. Her grandsons were the absolute joy of her life! She is also survived by a sister, Betty Bohrer, and a brother, Albert Culley, Jr., along with an aunt, Charlotte Harden, who was like a special sister to her. 

 Carol was a mother to every child who came through her door. Becky and Jen’s friends always had a second mom in Carol. She was a cat lover and leaves behind Minnie Mouse and Butterscotch “Fuzz”. Carol had a terrific sense of humor and a very quick, dry wit. She missed her calling as a stand-up comic. She constantly entertained her friends and family. Her humor helped get her through many of life’s difficulties.

 Carol’s family would like to thank the staff of Devlin Manor, particularly the nursing assistants and nurses, for the loving and compassionate care she received during her stay. Carol was treated like she was family. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

 A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, MD. Please visit www.durstfuneralhome.com for details.

Interment will be held in Hedgesville, WV, at a future date.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to Durst Funeral Home to assist with end-of-life expenses.
