Beulah Stakem

Beulah Rose Stakem, 93, of Frostburg, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Peace Healthcare at Lions Center.

Born October 15, 1930, on her family farm in Salisbury, Pa.to the late George C. Weimer and Rose (Warnick) Weimer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Vernan Stakem. Her parents; brother, Bernard L. Weimer and his wife Virginia and sister, Mary Marcella Weimer.

Mrs. Stakem was a member of Divine Mercy Parish St. Michaels, a member of Cumberland Red Hat Lady society, a 40-year member of Farrady Post #24 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and attended the Frostburg Senior Center quilting group for many years.

Beulah graduated from Beall High School in 1949 and worked as a teller at Lincoln Loan Company. She married the love of her life, Joseph, in June of 1950. In her younger years, as a homemaker she loved to sew and crochet. Beulah worked in the library at St. Michael's School during the years her children attended school. She enjoyed collecting and refurbishing old dolls. Beulah was a prolific crafter and enjoyed making gifts for her family and teaching her only granddaughter, Sarah Stakem, to knit and crochet. She loved any opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and was always available to babysit them.

Surviving are daughter, Debra Johnson and son, Larry Stakem and wife Lizbeth; grandchildren, Darren Johnson (Brittney), Doug Johnson (Audrey), Matthew Stakem (Stephanie), Jared Stakem (Lindsey), Derek Johnson (Naylena), and Sarah Stakem; eight grandchildren with two more on the way.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 2 to 4 pm at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg. A funeral service will follow at 4 pm with Deacon Harold Bradley Officiating.

A private internment will take place at a later date.
