A story for the ages comes full circle. It's about a boy meets girl, falls in love and a lifetime follows. Our precious Mother Bettie P. Whiteman passed into the Lords care on 3/6/2024 surrounded by family members after a brief illness at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital joining her lifelong love Maurice D. Whiteman.
How do you tell a story about such a wonderful life? Born on 3/4/1930, Bettie wasborn a twin, the youngest of six siblings. She was the daughter of Eva (Croteau) Cawby and Rollin Padgett. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Bettie is survived by her 4 children, Patricia Smouse and husband Robert, Deborah Whiteman, Kenneth Whiteman Sr, and Sandra Gomer and husband Larry. She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Larry Jr , Eddie, Ken Jr, Brandi, Tyler, Melissa(Husband- Matthew who she called "my man") Padgett, Leianne, and Kendra. 17 great grandchildren: Aidan, Bekkah, Skyler (her namesake), Colby, Deacon, Logan, Makayla, Ken III, Josh, Cameron, Lillian, Layla, Alayna, Maurice, Trevor, Cairo , and Malorie and two great great grand children Leila ( lil blue eyes )and Lelend, and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are three sister in laws and a number of very special friends.
During her life , Bettie had a number of jobs. Influencing her the most was a job in the fabric department at Sears where she picked up her love for fabric, sewing and in later years quilting. She made her family many cherished hand made quilted items. She had a passion for gardening her whole life. She was affectionately called Betty Boop by family members. She retired from the MVA. Bettie traveled across the US visiting and seeing many places with her special friends, Abby and Mary Lou. A friend list very long, Judy, Elaine, Dot, Deb, I can't name you all but know that all of you were special to her.
